Our planet is full of an array of diverse personality types. Many factors and influences compromise a “personality type”. These factors include things like genetics, social upbringing, influential mentors, culture, value systems, and the belief systems we are given or choose to embrace. At the same time, there are specific traits that can be seen in certain personality types that can be placed in a perspective that allow us to better understand and interact with others who are different from ourselves.
Appreciating Reds
Let’s begin with the Red personality types. These individuals are easy to spot. They have enormous amounts of energy and are constantly on the go. They tend to be very creative in their work, preferring to do things “their way”. They are direct communicators and like to get to the bottom line as soon as possible. They also enjoy the negotiation process in most situations. These individuals place “fun” on the top of their priority list. If they are not enjoying what they do, they will be unproductive. Reds also value freedom. If they are given to many rules/strict guidelines they have a tendency to rebel because it is in their personality to do so.
Communicating to Reds
When communicating to Reds, it is highly recommended that you get to the point quickly. Being confident and straightforward with them will work to your advantage. Let them know they are the person who can “make it happen” and it is the reason you are going to them. Reds appreciate good humor; don’t be afraid to use it when communicating with them. Being active with a red while you are communicating to them is a plus. Golfing, walking, fishing, etc. are excellent vehicles to have for a red to share more openly with you. Remember reds are action-oriented and often are not good at listening. While you are speaking they are already thinking of action ways to solve your problem. That may leave you feeling not listened to.
Appreciating Blues
Blue types are very relational people. Unlike the reds, their personalities are more geared for listening because they have more empathy. They are intuitive by nature and possess good amounts of sensitivity for others. Blues are good at coming up with ideas, working as team members, collaboration type projects, mediating, and bringing synergy to a group. Blues become very stressed when conflict arises and may avoid conflict at any cost.
Communicating to Blues
Of all the colors, blues are the easiest to communicate with. Because they are sensitive types, they would “feel bad” about inadvertently offending someone. Blues want to help in any way they can. As optimistic types, they prefer others who are positive like themselves. At times they can get so caught up in rescuing others that they forget about themselves in the process. It is acceptable to share your feelings with a blue. They are great friends to have who will always be there for you.
Appreciating Yellows
These types are the worker bees of the world. Always planning, organizing, cleaning and taking care of the household, they are good at completing numerous tasks. Yellow types appreciate closure, due much to their neat and tidy nature. They are dependable and loyal to a fault. They value efficiency and will make every effort to make sure things go smoothly. It’s important to remember that they live by the clock and timing is important to them, therefore, don’t be late!
Communication to Yellows
Yellow types, like the reds, are direct communicators. They value communications that are specific and to the point. They appreciate information that has direct application to their need. In other words, it’s best to refrain from the “fluff.” It is best to ask them for their help when it comes to organizing. They are usually willing to give an extra hand and provide as much support as possible. Recognize them for all the things they do, especially the little things.
Appreciating Green
Green personality types, like the blues, are indirect communicators. They are constantly scanning their universe for information and then synthesizing it in a way that makes sense for everyone. They like to debate and will make every effort to show others they are superior in their thought process. They have a tendency to over analyze things, which can be a real frustration for others. At times they may appear distant as they contemplate new ideas and thoughts. Engaging with them on their thought process is a sure way to better relations.
Communicating to Greens
Greens appreciate information when relating to others. The more knowledge base one has, the more respect you will gain from them. They think globally and need time to make decisions. Be aware of this important fact. They do not like being rushed into decisions, because it may mean they have not had the opportunity to evaluate all relevant data before deciding. They can be witty at times and enjoy intellectual challenges. When relating to a green, always be prepared with research to ensure your outcomes are attainable.
When relating to the four colors, it is important to remember that people are a combination of all four. Many individuals will have a primary and secondary color that work together. There are all shades and degrees of color, which impact one’s personality and interactions.
