Identifying Your Parenting Style

Estimated time to complete the course is 60 minutes.

FamilyIQ's online relationship tests, courses and classes have been developed by nationally recognized Marriage and Family Therapists, Counselors, PhD's and MD's across the country to help you improve your relationships and marriage through education.

This course discusses the strengths and weaknesses of four distinct Parenting Styles: Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, and Uninvolved. Parents are assisted in identifying their parenting style and are provided with information regarding the ways in which their parenting style influences the emotional health and social competence of their children.

Course Benefits

This FamilyIQ online course will help you understand how your parenting style influences your child.

  • You will be able to identify two essential features of parenting and how they affect parenting styles.
  • You will complete a self-assessment to discover which of the four parenting styles resembles your own.
  • You will be able to identify which style appears to best foster the emotional, cognitive, and social development of children.
  •  You will be able to describe how a parenting style contributes to - or helps prevent - power struggles between parent and child.
  • You will be able to create reasonable expectations for yourself and your child.
